Hospital Universitario Fundación Jiménez Díaz (FJD)

Spain, Madrid

Integrated within Madrid’s regional healthcare system, FJD offers comprehensive kidney disease and hypertension care, in collaboration with FRIAT for dialysis services.

General info

  • Patients: Services for 300 kidney transplant patients, 200 haemodialysis, and 450 peritoneal dialysis patients.
  • Visits: 50,000 follow-up outpatient visits per year for kidney disease or hypertension.

Optimisations Applied

Energy and Water Efficiency

  • Automatic shutdown of computers
  • Peritoneal dialysis fluid bag warming plates switched on only when needed to prepare for treatment, rather than remaining continuously powered

Resource Savings

  • Removing the practice of using glucose strip tests in patients with continuous glucose monitoring devices
  • Adjustment of analytical profiles in peritoneal dialysis patients (reduction of unnecessary blood tests)

Benchmarking Dashboard

The KitNewCare project will develop a benchmarking tool based on the 4 factor Life Cycle Assessment carried out at the 4 European pilot sites. This tool will enable kidney care centers to assess their environmental, social, financial, and health outcomes.
